Closer to owning
the fervent color that
wild flowers possess
As each

In summer summit
of autumn bloom
To me;
you grew too fast,
too soon:
Your roots did draw from God’s well,
wild-bright-petal
Gabrielle.

Chloe storm-thrower

Chloe, Storm Thrower
(for my daughter, Chloe Jayne Finlayson)
Chloe storm thrower,
Tossing swift miffs aside with spring time,
Blizzards and drifts early in the morning was your thunder.
Settle in, dear child…
The dawn of your birth has arrived,
And the lightning of your life has yet begun.
Midnight, silent sullen snow-blanket drives

About

JR Finlayson was born and raised in Clarence (one of the smaller suburban satellites of Buffalo).  Upon graduating from high school, he spent nearly ten years polishing his talents in Rochester, where he penned a weekly poetry column (a dull roar) in addition to finding publication in The Hazmat Review and reading in the right circles.  By 2003, he made a conscientious decision to return to Buffalo, thanks in large part to his choice in meddling with literary circles large and small.  In 2008, he teamed up with writer/poet/authors Carrie Gardner and Tom Waters to form the literary Trifecta known widely as the Monsters Of Verse.  In addition to Gypsy Stance Blues (a sampler/chapbook), ‘Finn’ or ‘Finny’ published A Dull Roar, a showcase of his poetry to date.  In addition to sculpture, oil on canvas painting, sketches and other forms of artistic expression, Finlayson’s talents have been showcased in ArtVoice and beyond.  This web site is only the beginning.
